About Ice-type Pokémon

Ice is the smallest type, with only 48 Pokémon. It is also the weakest defensive type in the chart: Ice resists nothing but other Ice moves, while Fire, Fighting, Rock, and Steel all hit it for double damage. Ice types are heavy, third-heaviest on average. The payoff is offense, since Ice moves hit Grass, Ground, Flying, and Dragon super effectively. In Generation 1 Ice moves did normal damage to Fire; from Generation 2 on, Fire resists them.

The generator above draws only from Pokémon with Ice as one of their types, dual types included.

Ice-type Pokémon by the numbers

Of the 48 Ice-type Pokémon, 16 are pure Ice and 32 have a second type. The most common pairing is Ice/Water (8 Pokémon), followed by Dragon (4) and Dark (3). 5 of them are legendary or mythical, including Articuno, Regice, Kyurem, Glastrier and 1 more.

By base stat total, the strongest Ice-type Pokémon that isn't legendary or mythical is Baxcalibur (600); counting legendaries, it's Kyurem (660). The fastest is Iron Bundle, with a base Speed of 136. The heaviest is Glastrier at 800 kg, and the lightest is Snom at 3.8 kg. Among pure Ice types, the highest base stat totals belong to Regice (580), Glastrier (580), Vanilluxe (535), Glaceon (525) and Cetitan (521).

Generations 5, 8 and 9 introduced the most Ice-type Pokémon, 7 each. Counts use each Pokémon's current typing, so a species that gained or changed a type in a later game is counted under its present types.

Ice moves on offense

Ice-type moves are super effective against Grass, Ground, Flying and Dragon, not very effective against Fire, Water, Ice and Steel. No type is immune to them.

What are Ice-type Pokémon weak to?

Ice has 4 weaknesses: Ice-type Pokémon take super-effective damage from Fire, Fighting, Rock and Steel moves, but resist Ice. For a dual type, the type calculator combines both types' matchups.
