About Fire-type Pokémon

Fire is a mid-sized type of 81 Pokémon, and 44% of them are pure Fire, one of the higher shares. It is quick on average and one of the better defensive types: only Steel resists more attacking types. Fire moves are super effective against Grass, Ice, Bug, and Steel. One of its resistances is newer than it looks. In Generation 1, Ice moves did normal damage to Fire types; Generation 2 made them not very effective, which is how the chart still reads today.

The generator above draws only from Pokémon with Fire as one of their types, dual types included.

Spin the random Pokémon wheel, add more filters on the full random Pokémon generator, or try a legendary Pokémon generator or a shiny Pokémon generator. Every starter trio has a fire member too — spin the random starter Pokémon generator if that's the vibe you're after.

Fire-type Pokémon by the numbers

Of the 81 Fire-type Pokémon, 36 are pure Fire and 45 have a second type. The most common pairing is Fire/Fighting (6 Pokémon), followed by Flying (6) and Ghost (6). 8 of them are legendary or mythical, including Moltres, Entei, Ho-Oh, Heatran and 4 more.

By base stat total, the strongest Fire-type Pokémon that isn't legendary or mythical is Gouging Fire (590); counting legendaries, it's Ho-Oh (680). The fastest is Talonflame, with a base Speed of 126. The heaviest is Gouging Fire at 590 kg, and the lightest is Sizzlipede at 1 kg. Among pure Fire types, the highest base stat totals belong to Entei (580), Arcanine (555), Magmortar (540), Typhlosion (534) and Cinderace (530). 9 starters are Fire types: Charmander, Cyndaquil, Torchic, Chimchar, Tepig, Fennekin, Litten, Scorbunny and Fuecoco.

Generation 5 introduced the most Fire-type Pokémon, 15. Counts use each Pokémon's current typing, so a species that gained or changed a type in a later game is counted under its present types.

  • Fire/Grass (1): Scovillain
  • Fire/Steel (1): Heatran
  • Fire/Water (1): Volcanion

3 of these typings belong to a single Pokémon each: Scovillain is the only Fire/Grass, Heatran is the only Fire/Steel and Volcanion is the only Fire/Water.

Fire moves on offense

Fire-type moves are super effective against Grass, Ice, Bug and Steel, not very effective against Fire, Water, Rock and Dragon. No type is immune to them.

What are Fire-type Pokémon weak to?

Fire has 3 weaknesses: Fire-type Pokémon take super-effective damage from Water, Ground and Rock moves, but resist Fire, Grass, Ice, Bug, Steel and Fairy. For a dual type, the type calculator combines both types' matchups.
