About Ground-type Pokémon

Ground shares the offensive record with Fighting: its moves are super effective against five types, Fire, Electric, Poison, Rock, and Steel. It also carries the only immunity to Electric moves. Ground types are heavy and slow, fourth-heaviest and second-slowest on average, and just under a quarter of them are pure Ground. Their blind spot is Flying types, which Ground moves cannot hit at all.

The generator above draws only from Pokémon with Ground as one of their types, dual types included.

Ground-type Pokémon by the numbers

Of the 75 Ground-type Pokémon, 17 are pure Ground and 58 have a second type. The most common pairing is Ground/Rock (9 Pokémon), followed by Water (9) and Dragon (6). 4 of them are legendary or mythical, including Groudon, Landorus, Zygarde and Ting-Lu.

By base stat total, the strongest Ground-type Pokémon that isn't legendary or mythical is Garchomp (600); counting legendaries, it's Groudon (670). The fastest is Dugtrio, with a base Speed of 120. The heaviest is Groudon at 950 kg, and the lightest is Diglett at 0.8 kg. Among pure Ground types, the highest base stat totals belong to Groudon (670), Hippowdon (525), Sandaconda (510), Donphan (500) and Mudsdale (500).

Generation 1 introduced the most Ground-type Pokémon, 14. Counts use each Pokémon's current typing, so a species that gained or changed a type in a later game is counted under its present types.

Ground moves on offense

Ground-type moves are super effective against Fire, Electric, Poison, Rock and Steel, not very effective against Grass and Bug, and have no effect at all on Flying.

What are Ground-type Pokémon weak to?

Ground has 3 weaknesses: Ground-type Pokémon take super-effective damage from Water, Grass and Ice moves, but resist Poison and Rock and are completely immune to Electric. For a dual type, the type calculator combines both types' matchups.
