Random Legendary Pokémon Generator

Draw a random legendary Pokémon from 94 legendaries and mythicals across nine generations.

What is a random legendary Pokémon generator?

A random legendary Pokémon generator draws one Pokémon from the legendary and mythical species only, instead of the full Pokédex. With no filter selected, each of the 94 eligible Pokémon has the same chance of appearing, so the result does not favor the handful of legendaries that come to mind first.

How to generate a random legendary Pokémon

  1. Set the pool. Leave the filters untouched to draw from all 94 legendaries and mythicals, or narrow the draw by generation, type, or base stats.
  2. Choose a display. Keep the standard artwork or switch to shiny artwork before generating.
  3. Generate a result. Click the button again any time you want another draw from the same pool.

What counts as legendary here?

The pool follows what the games flag as legendary or mythical: restricted legendaries such as Mewtwo, Groudon, and Zacian, sub-legendaries such as the legendary birds and the Regis, and mythical Pokémon such as Mew and Celebi. That is 71 legendaries plus 23 mythicals, 94 in total.

  • Restricted legendaries — box-art and cover-level Pokémon such as Mewtwo, Kyogre, Groudon, Dialga, Zacian, Koraidon, and Miraidon.
  • Sub-legendaries — trios, duos, and guardians such as Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres, the Regis, the Swords of Justice, and the Treasures of Ruin.
  • Mythical Pokémon — event-distributed species such as Mew, Celebi, Jirachi, Darkrai, Arceus, Zarude, and Pecharunt.

Legendary and mythical Pokémon by generation

Legendaries are not spread evenly across the series. Gen 7 adds the most at 16, Gen 1 the fewest at 5, so a draw limited to one generation can be a much smaller pool than the default.

Why use a legendary-only pool?

A full random Pokémon draw can return any of 1,025 species, and most of them are common route encounters. Restricting the pool to legendaries keeps every result at the scale a challenge run, a box-art pick, or a drawing prompt usually calls for, without having to reroll past the Pokémon you did not mean to include.

Filter legendaries by generation or type

The generation filter limits the draw to the games you care about — a single region for a playthrough that follows one era, or several regions for a wider pool. The type filter works the same way: Psychic is the most common legendary type with 23 entries, Dragon follows with 14, and Bug has exactly one. The match count updates as you change filters, so you can confirm the pool before drawing.

Keep a random legendary draw fair

A random result works best when the pool is agreed before the draw. Decide up front whether mythicals count, whether everyone draws from the same generations, and whether a reroll is allowed. The tool supplies the selection; the agreed rules decide how that selection is used.

This generator makes a choice rather than a recommendation. It does not rank legendaries by competitive tier, by how hard they are to catch, or by which games they appear in. That keeps the result useful when you want an unbiased pick instead of the same few popular names.

Ways to use a random legendary pick

Use it to pick the next legendary to hunt, to run a "legendary roulette" challenge where the draw decides your restricted slot, or to choose a subject for a drawing or writing prompt. It also works as a way to meet legendaries from generations you have not played.

Planning a shiny hunt? Check the random shiny Pokémon generator to see the alternate coloring before committing to it. For a draw that plays out like a reveal, use the random Pokémon wheel, and to build a full squad around the result, open the random Pokémon team generator. Hunting a specific type instead? The random Dragon-type Pokémon page covers that pool.

Frequently asked questions

Which Pokémon count as legendary here?

The pool follows what the games flag as legendary or mythical: restricted legendaries such as Mewtwo, Groudon, and Zacian, sub-legendaries such as the legendary birds and the Regis, and mythical Pokémon such as Mew and Celebi. That is 71 legendaries plus 23 mythicals, 94 in total.

Can I filter legendary Pokémon by generation or type?

Yes. Use the generation filter to draw only from one or more generations, and the type filter to draw only from legendaries of a given type. The match count above the button shows how many Pokémon remain eligible before you generate.

Does the generator pick a different legendary every time?

Each click makes a new random draw from the current eligible pool, so the same Pokémon can come up twice in a row. With no filter applied, all 94 legendaries and mythicals have the same chance of appearing.
