How to play Pokémon Wordle

Pokémon Wordle works like the original Wordle, but instead of a five-letter word you are hunting for a secret Pokémon. Type any Pokémon's name as a guess, and each guess reveals five clues comparing it to the answer:

• Gen — 🟩 means same generation; ↑ means the answer is from a later generation, ↓ an earlier one.
• Type 1 & Type 2 — 🟩 exact slot match, 🟨 the answer has that type in its other slot, ⬜ not one of its types at all.
• Weight — whether the answer is heavier (↑) or lighter (↓) than your guess.
• BST — base stat total, the six base stats added together, higher (↑) or lower (↓).

You have eight guesses. Solve it and the game shows your score; run out and it reveals the answer with its generation, types, weight, and BST, so you can see what you missed.

A Pokémon Wordle example

Say the answer is Lucario (Generation 4, Fighting/Steel, 54 kg, BST 525). A first guess of Pikachu comes back with Gen ↑, two gray type squares, Weight ↑, and BST ↑: the answer is from a later generation, is neither Electric nor single-typed like Pikachu, and is heavier and stronger.

A second guess of Machamp keeps Gen ↑ and BST ↑ but turns Type 1 green, so the answer's first type is Fighting. Weight flips to ↓, which puts the answer between 6 kg and 130 kg. Only five Pokémon fit every clue so far: a dual-type with Fighting first, from Generation 2 or later, with a BST above 505. They are Lucario, Marshadow, Urshifu, Sneasler, and Annihilape. Two guesses have taken the field from 1,025 to five.

Pokémon Wordle strategy tips

• Open near the middle. Across all 1,025 Pokémon, the middle base stat total is 450 and the middle weight is about 28 kg. A first guess close to those numbers splits the field in half on both clues.
• Read the second type slot. About half of all Pokémon have only one type. If you guess a single-type Pokémon and Type 2 turns green, the answer has one type too.
• Use BST to spot legendaries. Legendary and mythical Pokémon have a middle BST of 600, well above average. About seven in ten Pokémon with a BST over 580 are legendary or mythical, so if the arrow keeps pointing up past that, start guessing legendaries.
• Flip a yellow type. A 🟨 means the right type is in the wrong slot, so your next guess should carry it in the other position.

Keep track of the limits

Every arrow is a limit. Weight ↑ on a 6 kg guess means the answer weighs more than 6 kg; Weight ↓ on a 130 kg guess means it weighs less than 130 kg. The same goes for generation and BST. Keep a running note of the highest "more than" and the lowest "less than" for each clue, and never guess a Pokémon that falls outside them: it can't be the answer, so it only spends one of your eight tries. Sticking to this is the simplest way to finish the daily Pokémon Wordle with guesses to spare.

Daily vs. Unlimited

The daily puzzle is the same for every player worldwide and resets at 00:00 UTC — perfect for comparing your emoji results with friends. Unlimited mode deals a fresh random Pokémon every round, as many rounds as you want, and makes a great warm-up before tackling the daily. You don't have to finish the daily in one sitting either: close the tab and your guesses are still there when you come back later the same day.

Some players call it Poke Wordle; the idea is the same either way. What this Pokémon Wordle adds is a clue for every guess on five separate traits, so even a wrong guess narrows the field.

When does the daily Pokémon Wordle reset?

Once a day, at 00:00 UTC. Every player gets the same daily Pokémon Wordle puzzle, numbered from the first day the game went live. Your guesses are saved in your browser, so refreshing the page won't lose your progress or give you a different puzzle.

Which Pokémon can be the answer?

Any of the 1,025 Pokémon from Generation 1 to Generation 9 can be the answer, in both Daily and Unlimited mode. You can also guess any of them: start typing a name and pick it from the list.

Does sharing my result spoil the answer?

No. Copy result shares the puzzle number, how many guesses you took, and a grid of colored squares for each clue. Friends can see how you did without learning the answer.
