About Flying-type Pokémon

Flying is almost never a type on its own. Only 3 of its 109 Pokémon are pure Flying, by far the lowest share of any type; most are Normal/Flying birds, with 27 in that pairing alone. Flying types are the fastest in the game on average. The type is immune to Ground moves and resists Grass, Fighting, and Bug, while its own moves hit Grass, Fighting, and Bug super effectively.

The generator above draws only from Pokémon with Flying as one of their types, dual types included.

Spin the Pokémon wheel, add more filters on the main random Pokémon generator, or try a random legendary Pokémon or a random shiny Pokémon.

Flying-type Pokémon by the numbers

Of the 109 Flying-type Pokémon, 3 are pure Flying and 106 have a second type. The most common pairing is Flying/Normal (27 Pokémon), followed by Bug (13) and Water (8). 11 of them are legendary or mythical, including Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres, Lugia and 7 more.

By base stat total, the strongest Flying-type Pokémon that isn't legendary or mythical is Dragonite (600); counting legendaries, it's Lugia (680). The fastest is Ninjask, with a base Speed of 160. The heaviest is Celesteela at 999.9 kg, and the lightest is Minior at 0.3 kg. Among pure Flying types, the highest base stat totals belong to Tornadus (580), Corvisquire (365) and Rookidee (245). One starter is Flying types: Rowlet.

Generations 1 and 2 introduced the most Flying-type Pokémon, 19 each. Counts use each Pokémon's current typing, so a species that gained or changed a type in a later game is counted under its present types.

Flying moves on offense

Flying-type moves are super effective against Grass, Fighting and Bug, not very effective against Electric, Rock and Steel. No type is immune to them.

What are Flying-type Pokémon weak to?

Flying has 3 weaknesses: Flying-type Pokémon take super-effective damage from Electric, Ice and Rock moves, but resist Grass, Fighting and Bug and are completely immune to Ground. For a dual type, the type calculator combines both types' matchups.
