How the cry quiz works
Each round plays one Pokémon's official in-game cry, and you pick who it belongs to from four choices. Classic mode sticks to the 151 Gen 1 Pokémon — the 8-bit era cries most fans have memorized without realizing it. All-generations mode draws from every one of the 1,025 species, including the modern remastered cries, and is considerably harder.
Tips for guessing by sound
- Pitch tracks size surprisingly well — deep, rumbling cries usually mean heavy Pokémon, high chirps mean small ones.
- Gen 1 cries are short synth bursts; newer generations sound more like actual creature voices. That alone narrows the era.
- Some cries are famous traps — several classic Pokémon share near-identical sound profiles. Trust the tail end of the cry.
