Which Pokémon count as Gen 9?

Gen 9 covers the 120 Pokémon first introduced in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet — National Pokédex #906 (Sprigatito) to #1025 (Pecharunt), all originally discovered in the Paldea region. Regional forms of older Pokémon aren't counted; only brand-new species are.

About Generation 9

Generation 9 launched in 2022 with Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, set in Paldea, a region based on the Iberian Peninsula. It is the first mainline generation with a fully open world, and it added Terastallization, which lets a Pokémon change its type mid-battle. It also introduced Paradox Pokémon, ancient and future versions of familiar species.

Generation 9 introduced the Paldea region with Pokémon Scarlet & Violet. Its starter trio is Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly, and its headline legendaries are Koraidon and Miraidon. Every one of the 120species above is in this generator's pool — starters, legendaries, and everything between.

Gen 9 Pokémon by the numbers

The random Pokémon generator for Gen 9 draws from 120 species, the fourth-largest. Their most common types are Grass (20), Dragon (14) and Normal (14), and 64% of them have two types, the highest share of the nine generations.

12 are legendary or mythical (10%), the fourth-highest share. The average base stat total is 457, the highest of the nine generations. The strongest Gen 9 Pokémon that isn't legendary or mythical is Baxcalibur (600), the fastest is Iron Bundle with a base Speed of 136, and the heaviest is Cetitan at 700 kg. Types are counted by each Pokémon's current typing.

Generation 9 added 12 legendary and mythical Pokémon: Wo-Chien, Chien-Pao, Ting-Lu, Chi-Yu, Koraidon, Miraidon, Okidogi, Munkidori, Fezandipiti, Ogerpon, Terapagos and Pecharunt.
