Drawing challenge ideas

  • Daily drawing challenge — generate one random Pokémon every day and draw it in your own style. Great for Inktober, Drawcember, or just building a sketching habit without wasting time picking a subject.
  • Draw from memory — switch on Name only so you get just the Pokémon's name with the artwork hidden. Draw it from memory, then hit Reveal artwork to see how close you got. Harder than it sounds — there are 1,025 of them.
  • Fusion ideas — generate two random Pokémon and design a fusion that combines both. A classic art-community exercise for inventing original creature designs. For extra suspense, draw your two subjects on the slot-machine wheel instead.
  • Gijinka / humanization — draw a human character version of whatever Pokémon comes up, keeping its colors, types, and personality.
  • Style or speed challenges — same random pick, but drawn in one minute, with your non-dominant hand, or in the style of another artist.

Make the prompt fit your skill level

Use the filters to shape the challenge: stick to Gen 1 if you want recognizable classics, redraw a random starter Pokémon everyone knows, pick a single type like Fire, Ghost, or Dragon for a themed series, or leave everything off and let the full Pokédex decide. Artists who want a real test can combine name-only mode with the shiny toggle — good luck remembering shiny colorways.

Drawing from memory trains the same skill as recognizing silhouettes — see how sharp yours is in the Who's That Pokémon quiz.
